Recently entered three of my bonsai sculptures into an exhibition at The Forum in Norwich.
Fingers crossed that actually goes somewhere!

I am going to be looking into making some jewellery in the near future as I have a lot of resin left over from my bonsai project.
I will probably be looking at abstract objects to start with and then possibly adding a bit more detail to pieces as I get more used to working from a mould. Look forward to the pictures! I have now officially ordered the resin for my first set of castings. As it costs so much for not a lot (£15 for 1kg of resin) I think I am going to have to adapt my ideas a little and fill the bottom of the vases with some form of stones or other decorative beads/objects.
I have had a lot of really positive feedback about the ideas and am getting really into the designing part of the project, Just getting a little frustrated waiting for the resin to arrive as I want to play with that as well! Oh and if anyone in the Norwich/Norfolk area has any dead bonsai trees or other small trees that haven't survived for one reason or another I would be very happy to take them off your hands. By the time I next post I am hoping to be a seasoned pro in the field of resin casting! So, I have my first exhibition outside of University life is booked and waiting to happen.
It might end up being a bit of a leap forward (or possibly sideways, i'm not actually sure yet!) as I am branching into sculpture for the first time in I don't know how many years. It was a stroke of luck to be included in this exhibition (Music and Environment @ St Gregory's Church in Norwich, created by a collection of students and ex-students from Norwich University College of the Arts) as I was a bit late making my interest known. As a result I wasn't part of the process when it came to selecting a theme, which is why I think it is some form of fate that I have the perfect project for it which was just waiting for a reason to be created. The project is going to be based around some dead bonsai trees I have been lucky enough to acquire and will involve me potting them in clear or semi-clear resin so the roots are still visible. Anything further along the process from this is yet to be decided but I have had some interesting input about creating reflections and exciting ways to display my little trees. Hopefully I am going to be able to give them a new lease of life! That is all for now but I will keep you updated on my progress! Charlotte |
